when you're used to noise,
silence becomes unbearably
loud.
when you're used to dark,
light stitches your lids
shut.
when you're used to cold,
warmth melts you
entirely.
we choose not to
be used to these things.
we long, still, to
embrace their negative counterparts.
yet we surrender,
for we know resistance is
futile.
what for neglect oneself
with the embrace?
